Got to stay busy around here, and we have no problem finding things to do! Here are a few pictures of some of our best efforts, from rebuilding our hot tub room to chicken coups, to fire shed, to gardens and yard art. These pictures are of projects we have completed. FutureWe have rebuilt the hot tub room which is in a separate building next to our main dome. Marc and Steph did this all
by themselves without any outside contractors or help. Reroofed and put a new skylight in, insulated, rewired the
electrical things, put up tongue and groove cedar walls, put new sheathing up on the outside, installed rain gutters,
releveled the concrete floor, and installed slate tile floors! Finally installed a new hot tub so Steph and Marc can
relax and unwind after working on other projects.
We also later installed a TV monitor and sound system in the hot tub room. Watching a movie or listening to good
music while relaxing in the hot tub! Need we say more?
Marc's uncle Dale ran a dairy farm for many years and finally had to quite that business. He had a 1000 gal stainless steel milk tank that he did not know what he was going to do with. Marc had an idea and acquired the milk tank, thus started the fire shed project. We built a concrete pad and a roof, set the tank, along with a pump and fire hoses given to us by the local fire stations. In case of a forest fire, we plan to use this to spray the house and other building with a fire retardant gel to protect everything.
MoreSteph has become quite a good chicken farmer and we have done a lot to fix up our chicken coup. We put up a wire net over the top of the whole chicken yard, built a turkey run within the coup, painted the chicken coup with pretty flowers, and added in a couple more coups which are sitting on concrete pads.
MoreWe got lots of gardens around here and have built a number of raised beds. Though we know how to grow lots of rocks, we are learning how to grow our own food also.
MoreSteph has been busy building lots of birdbaths using a construction technique called hypertuffa. More
Since the humans around here live in a dome, it was only right that the doggies get to live in one too! So we built
one for our two big guys. Laika is checking out his new digs.
Marc needs a getaway place for his ham radio and electronic hobbies. So we decided to insulate the garage,
put up sheetrock and pegboard siding, install a furnace and upgrade the rugs and furnishings. Rango, our cat
LOVES it!
Marc built a 50 foot tower and put a 5 band 3 element quad antenna with a rotator on top of it. After a near disaster in high winds and heavy rains he also anchored the tower to 3 large boulders. More
